2024 Hartford Youth Data Fellows Showcase Projects at Community Data Walk

On May 20, 2024 the Hartford Data Collaborative hosted its annual Hartford Data Walk. The ten 2024 Hartford Youth Data Fellows (HYDF) presented data projects related to library engagement, home ownership, and the impact of evictions in Hartford. The Data Walk showcases the youth fellows' work and promotes data engagement among community members around key issues in Hartford.

Attention Hartford youth! The Hartford Data Collaborative has opened its application for Hartford youth to join HDC starting in January 2024. The Hartford Youth Data Fellowship is a 5-month data training and community-based project development program for Hartford students as part of the Hartford Data Collaborative. The program is designed to increase data literacy and analysis skills for high school seniors and college students and improve their confidence in interpreting data and sharing their insights with others. These skills and experiences will serve youth in their college and career explorations and provide an analytic foundation for youth interested in using data to make an impact in the Hartford community.

Hartford Data Collaborative Signs 75th Agency; Governance Highlighted in International Journal of Data Science

In August 2023, the 75th agency signed the Hartford Data Collaborative Enterprisewide Memorandum of Understanding (EMOU). This is an important milestone for the Hartford Data Collaborative (HDC), formed four years ago as a trusted, neutral place for linking and integrating data to address knowledge gaps about social services in Hartford. HDC began in 2019 with four key agencies—the City of Hartford, Hartford Public Schools, Capital Workforce Partners, and Our Piece of the Pie. Since then, a growing number of community-based organizations have demonstrated an interest and willingness to participate in data sharing about their program participants and clients through HDC.

Hartford Youth Data Fellows Lead Spring 2023 Data Walk

CTData’s Hartford Data Collaborative and the Hartford Youth Data Fellows held a Data Walk on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4:30-6:30pm at CTData’s office in downtown Hartford. Eight Youth Fellows presented data on children & youth, community safety, education, and mental health services: Yandell Alvarez, Naieem Kelly, Nasere Lewin, Syree Little, Rhaili-Em Lowe, Isaiah Perez, Khamari Thornton, and Tatiana Watson. Members of the community, including representatives from community-based organizations, local businesses, and foundations, attended and engaged in discussions with the youth about their findings.

HDC & Hartford Youth Researchers Issue Report on First Year of Hartford UNITY Project

The Hartford Data Collaborative (HDC)  provided the City of Hartford’s Department of Families, Children, Youth, and Recreation (DFCYR) with the first report on its investment in programs for children and youth starting in the summer of 2021 and continuing through May 30, 2022 (FY2022). Hartford’s UNITY Program provides grants to local program providers serving Hartford youth and is funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act and is designed to engage children after the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. This project was the first in Hartford to require providers receiving over $5,000 in grant funds to join the Hartford Data Collaborative and share their data with HDC

Hartford Youth Profile

This past spring Hartford Data Collaborative launched a Hartford Youth Researcher program to give youth within Hartford an opportunity to review, analyze, and report on data related to Youth Behavioral Health alongside staff from the Hartford Data Collaborative. As they continue their mission, Hartford Youth scholar researcher Nathaniel Gardner, inspired by his community, created a Hartford Youth Profile which captures the core characteristics and values of youth in Hartford. This data was created from sources retrieved from CTData, EdSight, and the US Census.

Spring Data Walk with Hartford Youth Researchers

On June 8th, the Hartford Data Collaborative (HDC) hosted its first Data Walk focused on data about youth engagement in Hartford. Earlier this spring, the Hartford Data Collaborative launched its inaugural cohort of Hartford Youth Researchers. HDC coordinators Kate Eikel and Geethika Fernando co-led the presentation of data with Hartford Youth Researchers Shian Earlington, Nicaury Espinoza, Nate Gardner, Winder Munoz, and Daniel White. Officials from the City of Hartford Department of Families, Children, Youth, and Recreation; the Mayor’s office; the Hartford Public Schools; the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; and HDC community partners including Capital Workforce Partners, COMPASS Youth Collaborative, and Our Piece of the Pie, attended the presentation and engaged in a discussion about the findings afterwards.

Hartford Youth Researchers Begin Work this Spring

On Thursday, April 21st, CTData and staff from its Hartford Data Collaborative welcomed its first class of Hartford Youth Researchers. The six youth—who range in age from 16-21-- will be reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on data related to Youth Behavioral Health alongside staff from the Hartford Data Collaborative. In the April workshop, Hartford Youth Researchers engaged in discussions about data literacy and identifying data for a Hartford Youth Profile that will provide the Hartford Data Collaborative and its city partners with insights on city youth and their needs.

Connecticut Data Collaborative to Participate in Cross-Sector Initiative Led by Connecticut Children’s

Connecticut Children’s is leading a five year, multi-partner, cross-sector effort designed to improve the lives of children in North Hartford under a new $30 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Among the partners is the Hartford Data Collaborative, an initiative within the Connecticut Data Collaborative (CTData).

The Connecticut Data Collaborative is proud to join with Connecticut Children’s and all the partners in this important work, and broaden the breadth and scope of the Hartford Data Collaborative initiative, an ongoing collaboration with Hartford agencies and community leaders that facilitates data sharing, integration, and analysis to optimize services and outcomes for Hartford residents.
