Mental Health Resources for Youth in Hartford
Mobile crisis services dispatch trained staff and clinical support to people experiencing mental health crises at homes, schools, and community centers. In Connecticut, the State Department of Children and Families, the United Way of Connecticut, and the Child Health & Development Institute (CHDI) provide free Mobile Crisis Intervention Services for children and youth through 2-1-1. Data from CHDI monthly reports are allow communities to shine a light on mental health issues and work on improving services in their area. In 2023, the Hartford Data Collaborative and the Hartford Youth Data Fellows reviewed youth mental health resources in Connecticut by reviewing the CHDI reports and focusing on the data for Hartford youth.
Yandell Alvarez, and Isaiah Perez, 2023 Hartford Youth Data Fellows, analyzed youth mental health resources in for youth in Hartford. Here are some of the findings they presented to the community in our 2023 Hartford Youth Data Walk.
Analyzing Length of Time Receiving Mental Health Counseling Services
From July 1, 2021, through February 2, 2023, most Hartford youth engaged longer in mental health counseling when meeting with a counselor face-to-face compared to receiving counseling via phone calls or having a mixture of the two.
Analyzing Referrals Made After Discharge
After Hartford children and youth are discharged from mental health counseling, they receive referrals to other mental health-based programs. Counselors refer children and youth to services, including extended day programs, care coordination, and inpatient hospitals.
