Navigating Equal Employment Opportunity Data from the U.S Census Bureau
The U.S. Census Bureau retabulates American Community Survey data to create datasets to answer questions about equal employment opportunity. Specifically, these tables provide detailed information on occupations classified by race and gender aggregated by various geographic levels. These tables contain occupation data disaggregated by demographic characteristics.
Along with the tool CTData has developed, we have also created this dedicated EEO Resources page to help data users and EEO Officers gain a better understanding of resources provided Census Bureau. The data product used for CTData’s tool tool is the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) EEO-ALL01R , 2014-2018. Employers and organizations can use this tool to comply with federal regulations prohibiting employment discrimination.
A video tutorial on how to access the EEO tables on the Census Bureau’s website can be found below.
There are four types of EEO tables published by the Census Bureau:
EEO-1 Job Category Tables: These tables provide data on employment statistics by race, ethnicity, and sex within occupational categories that align with those used in the EEO-1 Report. This report is mandatory for employers with more than 100 employees.
Occupation by Industry Tables: These tables detail the demographics of workers within specific industries and occupations, helping organizations analyze employment patterns and potential disparities.
Residence Geography Tables: This type shows the demographics of the workforce based on where employees live, which can be critical for local governments and planners.
Worksite Geography Tables: Similar to residence geography, this type of table is based on the location of worksites and can be used to assess employment patterns in specific business areas or regions.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Tabulation Data Tools can be found here. This tool allows users to select different geographies: nation, State, County, and Place. Connecticut's place geography includes only the largest 15 communities. Once you select the geography, the report is generated.
