A Fall Equity in Data Lineup You Don’t Want to Miss!

Data users - we are gearing up for the last quarter of 2022 with the Equity in Data Community of Practice! We have all learned a great deal together so far in 2022, and the planning team has come up with an exciting fall lineup.

If you are unfamiliar with Equity In Data Community Of Practice, we are a group of data users in Connecticut (mostly) supporting one another as we work toward integrating more equitable data practices. We focus on racial equity explicitly but not exclusively. Our group is a project of the Connecticut Data Collaborative.

Read on to learn about what we’re up to for the remainder of this year. We hope you’ll come and join a session so you can connect with other data users, share resources, and enjoy being in the same virtual room with others who care about data equity as much as you do!

Mapping for Equity

Tuesday, September 20th, 2022

11:30 am - 1:00 PM

Mapping is a powerful tool that can help us uncover geographical patterns in assets and disparities. In September we will be looking at some case studies about the use of mapping in data equity work, and identifying questions that we have for our panel next month, "How Does 'Where' Matter?"

How Does "Where" Matter?

Tuesday, October 18th, 2022

11:30 am -1:00 pm

Mapping is a powerful tool that can help uncover geographical patterns in assets and disparities. In October we will have a demonstration from the Census Bureau of their My Community Explorer tool, part of their Data Equity Tools lineup. We will also be looking at some case studies about the use of mapping in data equity work, and identifying questions that we have for our panel next month, “How Does ‘Where’ Matter?”

Why am I Always Being Researched?

Tuesday, November 15th, 2022

11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Through the course of their work, Chicago Beyond, our guest this month, identified “evidence that the power dynamic between community organizations, researchers, and funders blocks information that could drive better decision-making and fuel more investment in communities most in need.” Join us as we discuss the guidebook, Why am I Always Being Researched, in order to uncover how we can approach our data work more equitably.

Reflection for Action

Tuesday, December 13, 2022

11:30 am - 1:00 pm

With a full series of interesting sessions this fall, it’s time to pause, reflect, and identify actions we can take to integrate some of these ideas into our data practice. Join us to recap and discuss some of the topics that we would like to apply, and share your thoughts on what topics the planning group should set up for 2023.
