CTData Participates in The Opportunity Project!

Each year, the U.S. Census Bureau hosts The Opportunity Project (TOP), where non-profits, universities, and companies work together with the goal of using public data to serve communities nationwide.

The U.S. Census Bureau facilitates 12-week “sprints” where organizations and members from various sectors work together to develop data products and solutions for their chosen problem statement. While many initiatives focus on building data-driven solutions for communities, TOP focuses on working with communities. Tech teams lead development, but consult with user advocates (such as community leaders and people with lived experiences) and data stewards in order to gain insight into their problem statement and public data sources that can be used in their analysis. Here are some of the previous products developed through TOP.

In 2021, there are three problem statements that TOP plans to explore. CTData has joined TOP as a data steward for the problem statement “Assisting Businesses, Community, and State/Local Government Leaders to Make Critical Decisions Using Decennial Data” where we will assist teams in finding relevant and accurate data from the Census Bureau and other public sources. This problem statement is very relevant to our work at CTData and we look forward to working with tech teams and sharing the final data products.
